The very first manual traffic exchange (MTE) website likely appeared on the internet somewhere in the late 1990s. The idea was, and still is, simple yet effective.
Owners of webpages view other owners their pages, in return for views for their own pages. With internet advertising still being in full development, one can assume that the first pages being viewed were pages with a variety of content, other than solely commercial content and GRQ (get rich quick) presentations.
Along the way, most of the hundreds (if not thousands) of MTE websites that have come and gone have dropped the very essence of a MTE.
Today, internet advertising is pretty much fully developed and MTEs are definitely part of any serious internet marketer’s toolbox.
The biggest problem that most MTE owners face is reaching the mainstream audiences, the masses. This is not surprising, though, since most MTE owners are not seeing their services through the eyes of advertisers who want quality.
This is why Winning Ads has a 10-second surf timer for its members, for instance. So, also (and perhaps especially) for the members who have ‘upgraded’ their membership accounts, since those are the members who spend a certain budget on advertising for their business.
It stands to reason that advertisers have much more chances to find paying clients in those members than in members who only use MTE services for free.
At Winning Ads an upgraded membership is considered an advertising package that comes with perks, not a membership level that comes with “bonus” credits. A bonus, after all, is something you get on top of something else.

This quality can only be offered when a broad user base exists at a MTE. This broad user base can only exist when a MTE has a big variety of content in rotation in its system. This big variety can only be there when an acceptable surf timer is being used. At least 10 seconds per page view, this is a matter of meeting our members and advertisers halfway.
